A House I Know

I've never walked the curving path
To a certain house I know,
But I am sure it's a happy house.
Mine was like it long ago-
A sandbox filled with toys,
Blue aprons on the line,
Yellow roses by the dooryard,
Windowpanes that shine.

Pink hollyhocks out back,
A lilac bush in bloom,
A curtain blowing, ruffly white,
To grace a sunny room.

An even if I never call,
This family's heart I know
Is warm and true and happy;
Their house has told me so.
-Lucille Cumley

A neighbor that lives down the block, whom I had not had the privilege
of meeting before, stopped over the other day to give me this poem.
She is in her nineties, and said that she enjoys watching our family from her window.
She said that this particular poem reminded her of us, and she wanted to share it with me.
How sweet is that? I think that was one of the highest compliments
anyone has ever given me. The poem was written in the 1940's, which
happens to be one of my favorite era's.  I just love it and wanted to
share it with you!

What a HUGE compliment! Don't you have such an appreciation for the elderly? Wow. How special!
