Today I realized that I do a lot of tasks while supervising my children. In other words, I'm basically "babysitting" but not interacting with them. So, I decided to drop what I had on my agenda today, and spend some time with them building a fort outside. We began by picking our spot to build the fort, in "the woods" as my children call it. (it consists of 6 trees) Then I started giving them specific tasks that they are able to do. I was explaining how we are going to build the fort and my son Luke (age 5) says to me, "Mom, you're pretty smart....for a girl. I never knew that about you!" I'm not sure if that was a compliment or what, but I had a good chuckle!
Thank you for being honest about your role with your children. I often find myself being "busy" with so many things that I forget to engage with my children other than meeting their basic needs each day. It is something God is gently pointing out to me lately and I appreciate knowing I am not alone in the challenge of being both task-master and mother. Love you Julie! ~L
I love that you guys have "the woods" to play in. How fun for the kids. I am glad I found your blog.
